ok, I bought a second fire belly newt the other day (cynops orientalis) and he is more active than my female that I've had for a month and a half. I've noticed that he keeps his head up a lot and is more active. She just slithers along like a snake would. She was totally aquatic last week until I cleaned her tank. For some reason she loves to sit under the filter and have the water pour down on her. I still havn't seen her eat, but I have seen feces in the water when I'm cleaning. Is anything wrong with her? I havn't noticed anything other than her slumping around and being sluggish. She darts around the water top or walks across the bottom floor. I can't figure anything our since I am still a novice herp.

I may have found a problem with my "cleaning" method. I use to take all the water out and run hot water in the tank and swish all the junk out of the bottom rocks, putting her in my quarintine tank while doing so.(nothing in quarintine tank) Now, I know to pump half of the water out and use aged water. This forum is really helpful. If anyone that his educated in the care of Fire bellies (C. Orientalis) please e-mail me at AlbinoPhoenix@yahoo.com Thanks.
