Few questions regarding my spazzy beardie. =)

Rez Dec 29, 2004 12:21 PM

First I'll lay down the basics. It's almost 5 months old and on it's 4th shed. I got it when it was 2 months old. Its diet was almost exclusively crickets. I've been able to get it to eat only veggies and juvi pellets now (crickets were getting pricey; I still give them once every couple of weeks).

At this age, will I be able to sex it yet?

The little guy (gal) has very active moments - it'll jump from its vine to its rock, dart across the cage, claw at the glass, and I've even seen it dangling from the top of screen! O_o If it's male, I'm gonna call him Spiderman... hehe. Are these bouts of excitement normal?

Is it ok to only feed it veggies and pellets at this time, or should I keep varying its diet?

After hearing many good things about wax worms, I tried those for about a month, but my beardie always turned its nose up at them. =/ Should I try giving them again later, or will it always dislike them?

The spurts of activity are normal. Yep, you should be able to sex it at this age, look for the bumps (hemipenile bulges). I would still offer some live food, pellets and salad are good filler but they still need some animal protein. Waxworms should only be given as treats, they're almost entirely fat and very little nutritional value. Silkworms would be good, maybe even a couple superworms or roaches.
