hmmm interesting egg question for experienced breeders>>>

divinitry Jul 03, 2003 03:29 PM

one of my breeders normally lays eggs every 3 weeks, but a few weeks ago she waited 5 weeks before laying a clutch, and the eggs that she layed were slightly larger then what she normally lays. those large eggs have been in the incubator at 88/89 degrees for about 3 WEEKS and today i noticed that they appear to be sweating. is it possible that the eggs were developing as they would in an incubator during those extra two weeks of gestation? im just confused because i've never had something like this happen before. also, i know that eggs sometimes sweat when they are 'dying' but these eggs seem very healthy and firm. any comments or thoughts?

No. They do not begin developing in the mother before they are layed. A few reasons I can think of that may throw off her breeding schedule.
First has to be stress.
Temperature variations
Young, possibly first year breeder
Breeding cycle winding down. Possibly starting to lay duds.

That's odd...I didn't think the eggs would start developing in the mother. But then again, I candled an egg from my leo's 5th clutch right after I picked it out of the laying box and it glowed pink and has tons of little blood vessels running through it. This wasn't even a blood vessel or two...there were many and I could see the embryo). It has been incubating for a week or two now and is fertile. Weird.
