How much food is too much?

deborah1969 Dec 29, 2004 07:54 PM

I have a 2 year old Pueblan and I'm curious to find out how much food would be too much for him. Would he overeat if he doesn't need to eat? He weighs 4.6 oz, and is around 26 inches long. I have been giving him 2 fuzzies once a week for about 4 months now. I switched to the "Mice On Ice" brand, they seem to be a little bit larger than the "Gournet Rodents", which are the only 2 types in the pet stores around here. The current fuzzies are about the same size (or a little smaller) as he at his largest part of his body, and he likes to have two of them. I feed him in a separate container, one at a time, and it takes him about 20 minutes to finish them both. I offered him a "small mouse" a few weeks ago a he just sorta sized it up and down, and looked at me like I was insane "That's too BIG for ME!" Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated.

Two smaller prey items is generally considered healthier than one large one, so stick to the two fuzzies. They develop a feed response after eating so dont feed more than that (unless they are pinks) and they probably wont eat if they arent hungry one week.

my tangerine honduran is 1 1/2 years old, (not sure how long, at least arms length) and still eating fuzzies. sometimes 1, most of the time 2. i did get him to eat 4 one time. i also tried an adult mouse once. he started to eat it then let it go. too big i guess.
i have read that milk snakes skin doesn't stretch as much as say a corn so they can't take in as big a meal. mine hides 24/7 so doesn't burn as much energy as my corns. sometimes mine will eat every 7-10 days, sometimes 14days. the hungryer he gets the more active he is
