Farm Raised vs. CB or Ch?

Ses01 Dec 30, 2004 12:27 AM

Hello. I was just wondering what the difference is between a farm raised BP as opposed to a CH or CB? I've asked a few differnt people and I've gotten different answers from all of them. Just curious to see what everyone here thinks.

Also, i have heard there is a BP breeder in New Hampshire. Does anyone know who it is and where they are located? Thanks in advance.

I think that "farm raised" is probably the same as "captive hatched" and both are euphemisms for wild bred and harvested eggs that are hatched in captivity in Africa and then exported. I don't think there is any actual "farming" where they breed or even grow ball pythons in semi captivity in Africa but I don't know for sure. There is a trend the last few years for big importers to hold the wild bred babies from when they come in in April and May until fall when they can be sold for more but I wouldn't really call that farming either. However, it is much better than the old horror stories I heard about importers not even opening the boxes for months until they could sell the survivors for more than the entire shipment during the spring import glut.

I knew NERD was somewhere back there but apparently they are actually in New Hampshire it's self. Of course what does it matter as small as those NE states are. I'm going to spend ALL DAY driving across Nebraska soon ...

There are some people that sell "Bush Babies" as "Farm Raised" animals. There is no real thing as farm rasied. The babies that come in during hatching season are c.h. but after the hatching season is over and there are animals left, they are released back into the wild. Then later in the year "Bush Babies" are imported under "Farmed" C.I.T.E.S. documents as there are many quotas left for the "Farmed" Balls.
