New to burms, got one, need some answers......please ?

East TN Reptile Jul 03, 2003 04:13 PM

I got a baby Green Burm @ a show last week. She's bout 14" long and feels VERY soft, like a new born does. I've tried EVERYTHING & EVERYWAY to get her to eat. No luck. She tried a larger mouse but couldn't kill it. I've always heard baby burms like large food items. I've even tried senting with chicken.
Since she's small & has that "new born feel", should I wait for a shed & then try to feed her? Any info would be great ! Thanks,Dave

Well since you just got it, it’s probably stressed out leave it alone for a few days to get used to its surroundings. Then try feeding it an adult mouse in about a week.

I had the same prob. My baby burm, Boomer, would not show any interest in food. I just let him sit it out and made sure his temp and humidity was up to par and then sure enough he munches pretty good now. He still hesitates a bit but eats none the less. So just give it some time and heat

You can safely leave a rat fuzzy in with the snake over night and there is no danger to the snake. The fuzzy will be fine if not eaten and can be returned to its mother. A mouse, however could become aggressive and hurt or even kill your little baby. Besides,. it's always good to get them on rats ASAP. This way you never have to go through the transition a few months later when mice are way too small to do the python any real good.

What should I keep her humidity @ ? I've worked with Boas & pytons for over 14 yrs..........just never had Burms.
A VERY good friend of mine hatched out some HIGH white albino Burms this yr & is sending me a pair! As soon as I get pics, Ill post them. If any of you know Tim Frazier.that's who I'm getting them from. I'm VERY much looking forward to becoming a Burm owner & excited to be a part of this forum ! I've kept vey large constrictors before....just not Burms. If ya think of any good advice.......I'll gladly take it! Again......thanks for your replies. Dave

i try and keep the humidity as high as possible. It seems to me that it helps their skin and digestion, though i cant explain how lol. My tank easily stays at around 90 percent without spraying but once a day. But then again, mine is rubbermaid lol so it holds humidity like crazy. Stay around 80 or 90 percent and ull be fine.
