Hey guys-

When Pebbles got that red thing around her vent area (which is still there by the way) the vet put her on a drop of antibiotic and 5 drops of calcium a day. Since then, she has hardly been eating and getting skinnier than she already was. Today I offered her a wax worm before medicine and she scarfed it up. I'm thinking that 5 drops of calcium a day is ridiculous for a 19 gram 4 month old. Should I cut down on the calcium and focus more on food?

Thanks!!
Becca

Geesh, thats a tough question to ask, I'm not a vet, but I would not think the calcium would make her appetite decrease and her weight to drop, if anything I would think it may be the antibiotic making her that way, I know in Bearded Dragons sometimes when people have them on medicines they do not eat well, so it may be the same for her. What exactly did he say her problem was? I do remember you were supposed to soak her, that did not help either? You could experiment like you say you noticed without medicine she ate, try it a couple more days(without antibiotic) and see if her appetite increases. Even though I'm not a vet what the heck is the difference, if ya stop it a couple days, if shes just losing weight and not eating while on it, can't be that benificial. As far as the 5 drops of calcium a day, dont know, I use (Sticky tongue miner- all) for all my lizards, I put small amount powder in a baggie add some crickets , shake, and bake, LOL no then serve, juvies everyday dusting on their crickets. Try a dab of neosporin on that red area, and remember, these are just my feelings, or what I may do if she were mine and losing weight not eating and still red, but hey you could always call the Vet back and tell him what your telling us also ! Wish I had a better answer, hope she gets better soon ! Eve

i was thinking that the problem with the calcium drops might be that they are filling her up since she is so small.

I really don't know Becca, I wouildn't think so, but how is she acting? Is she active? Look good? Losing weight and not eating since medicine, maybe you should tell your vet since you already paid him. Shes too small to continue to lose weight, Eve
