I have a male and female red tegu and yesterday I caught them in the act. Ok so I was actually on my way out the door when I heard my male huffing and puffing and grabbing hold of my female's neck (...well I knew what that meant). She wasn't really having any of it but he was very persistant. When I came home they were both smoking cigarettes, so now I'm trying to prepare for the possibility of lil' tegus. Unfortunately there isn't much info on red tegu mating. I was able to find a couple websites with info but wouldn't you believe they said different things! I was hoping someone may have experience with this or know of a good website with info.

Here is my plan of action so far, help me out here though:
-I have already separated the male from the female (cos we all know boys only stress girls out-and thats what a site told me to do)
-I gave the female a big meal today packed full of Vit C and Calcium supplements.
-I gave her plums (her fave)
-I took her outside today to soak up the sun (I live in FL so its not cold yet)
-I am maintaining her at her usual cage temp ~80 degrees with a warmer basking area of ~110 degrees
-She is currently on a coconut bark bedding but I will be going tomorrow to get peat moss (which was specified on a website) so she can use it to build a nest.
-I have been misting her twice daily since she is shedding and she has a log hide-away that I also mist to provide adequate humidity.
-I am looking into incubators (any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!)

I read that during incubation the eggs should be placed on damp vermiculite at a temp 80-85 degrees and humidity of 80-100%, does anyone know how accurate this is?

Also I was wondering how long it takes until she lays the eggs, I have read that they can sometimes retain the eggs until it is more suitable to lay them...does anyone know about that?
Oh, and I'm also curious about the average clutch size because one site said 20 and another said 4 (Big difference!)LOL

Any help would be great!! Thanks in advance!!!!
