My cham still struggles to swallow

tassadar898 Dec 30, 2004 04:42 PM

Recently after eating, my cham lifts his chin straight up and the gulps the air sticknig his tongue out just a little and then wiggles his body. He seems like he is trying to force the feeder down his throat, he never use to do this and this has been happening after every cricket he eats post 2 days ago. Any help?

Can you switch to a soft bodied feeder for a few days? Maybe some small silk-, wax-, butter- or horn- worms? Not that crickets are tough but they have all those legs! lol! You can also try taking off the back legs - it is sort of gross but you can master it with a quick flick using forceps. Is this Dot you are talking about?

Yea, only other things I have are waxworms, and the problem seemed to occur after feeding him a wax. It wasnt big at all and he took it down the long ways. Not to mention how fatty those worms are.

I've seen my chameleons do this before, it's nothing
to worry about. The squirming snake action is their
way of pushing a chunk of food down that's stuck, or too big.
Just make sure the insects are small enough...
The waxworms could be creating a sticky "peanut butter" effect
in his throat. Ever try gulping down a mouthfull of paste without someting to wash it down? mmmm
