Bad shed... what to do?!?!?

mixitup Dec 30, 2004 07:50 PM

My water Dragon usually sheds very well, but his last two sheds have been horrible. Some of his tail and spikes are very dark, and some of his toes. I'm very worried because I read that bad sheds could cause toes, spikes, tails to fall off, ecspecially when they're darkened. I really hope I can still help him. What can I do? Does anyone think I can reverse this?
Usually problems with heat and humidity is the cause of bad sheds, so I'll see if that is ok, but he shed so well before I'm not really sure.
I've started to put him in warmish water in the tub, hopefully to help him shed, is this ok?
I really want to get him back healthy again, please help!!!!! Thanks!!!!

Pigmentation naturally darkens around the spikes and toes on some occasions and is nothing to worry about. Your water dragon should have a water container, large enough for him to submerge in, available at all times. Bathing in warm water is unnecessary unless your are sure that the shedding is constricting a body part. If that were so you would see a ring at the point where left over shed on the toe or spike is constricting. It looks like a ring that is being worn too tightly. If that is the case then a warm soak followed by picking away the offending shed with a pair of tweesers is warranted.
