I know that the holotype animal for D.caudomaculatus was a road-kill and that you captured at least one live specimen. How many live specimens have been collected and examined? Do they seem to be fairly common, or is there enough data to know? Does the range overlap with D.m.melanurus or D.corais?
It amazes me that this species is found in an obviously (at least somewhat) inhabited area, that two other species of Drymarchon are well documented from the same general area, and yet it has not been described until now. It makes me wonder how many other species/sub-species of Drymarchon exist in Central and South America in small ranges that have not yet been described? Or, as yet undescribed species of snakes in general.
I would have emailed these questions to you, but I figured other members of the forum are wondering the same things and would be interested in seeing the reply.
Thanks,
Gerald
