Rack heating questions

momtowildones Dec 30, 2004 11:05 PM

My Dad is building a breeding rack for my Leopard Geckos. It has five shevles that are 35 inches long and 15- 16 inches deep. It will house rubbermaid tubs.

What width heat tape do you suggest 3 or 4 inch wide?

Do I have to have the heat tape hooked to a dimmer switch? or what type of heat regulators do you suggest? I would like to go the least expensive route and upgrade after recovering financially from Christmas.

Thanks for your help!

Suzanne

I personally like to work with 3" flexwatt. You can always use 4" but there is not really that much of a diffrence in the actual heating element. I dimmer or thermostat HAS to be used or the flexwatt will reach temps that are fatal for your animals. Check out these pages on my site, one is a thermostat and dimmer compairion and the other is a flexwatt FAQ. Hope this helps,
-Matt
