COMBO LIGHTS - are they OK to use??

photojoe Dec 31, 2004 12:12 AM

The combo lights that have the incandesents right next to the flourescents, are they ok to use? It seems like it might make the flourescents breakdown much faster since they generate so much more heat, but maybe there's not any basis for this.

Is there any reason not to use them?

Thanks

I asked this same Question about 8 months ago.
And you are right. The heat makes the flourescents
break down faster.
Also from what I understand. The basking bulbs should
be up and down. Not sideways. Can not remember why.
Hope this helps.

You're right about them needing to be up and down vs sideways. The reason is most of the basking lights have a silver coating over the top half of them to aim all the light straight down, rather than all around. This creates a much hotter zone in one area rather than a high ambient temperature all around.
