Carpet Python or Corn Snake...???

thesaj Dec 31, 2004 10:03 AM

I have W30"xH24"xD12" chameleon tank with vented screen sides. I want something sorta arboreal.

Currently debating either a Corn or a Carpet Python.

-------------------------------------------------

Corn Snake

PROS:
- right size
- desired coloring (orange/reddish)
- affordable ($50)
- reasonably handable

CONS:
- not a true arboreal
- tend to tree climb only when younger from what i hear and unlikely to perch

-------------------------------------------------

Carpet Python

PROS:
- arboreal
- nicely shaped head
- reasonably handable

CONS:
- a plain black and white pattern
- a bit larger adult size than i desire
- pricey ($150)

-------------------------------------------------

Amazon Tree Boa

PROS:
- Arboreal
- Perfect size (thin)

CONS
- Poor temperament
- likely would not be able to handle...just feed and watch
- probably NOT a good beginner snake

-------------------------------------------------

Thoughts, comments, any ideas? any other good beginner arboreal small snakes?

You might want to consider that a Carpet Python will rapidly out grow that container (lengths to over 10 ft.). If your looking for a suitable Arborial, Boas of the genus Corallus will stay closet to your specifications, but they frequently tend towards being nippy.

There are a number of species of vine Snake that might be more in line with your desires.
