My Slider won't eat

nightman1973x Dec 31, 2004 10:38 AM

I have had my Yellow-Bellied Slider Turtle for 7 years(since he was a hatchling) and every year he does the same thing in winter. He slows down eating. Every year it scares me to death because he is literaly my best friend and I would die if something happened to him. This year is worse. He goes for upwards of 5 or 6 days without eating a bite. Is this normal? Does anyone know of a way to get him to eat? His water temperature is fine and he has plenty of room to bask under a UV lamp. In fact he's laying on a rock right by my leg basking now. If anyone has any information please e-mail me at nightman1973x@aol.com
Thank you.

Hey don't worry, it happens. My adult male painted turtle would slow down on eating every winter, for 5 years, he would often eat once a week, or once every 2 weeks. And he was fine.
