How to tell if a Sonoran is gravid?

ChaosCat Jul 03, 2003 06:14 PM

Ok, since these guys are smaller than normal boas, and my last one that gave birth didn't give a CLUE about being gravid..

anyone on here breed sonorans who can tell?

So far my female has been very territorial (will strike when in the cage-have to take her out with a hook and gloves), she's been sitting on top of her heat pad 90% of the time, soaks herself in the water dish-belly only-occasionally, and will eat anything I give her ravenously.

Now, I've heard that reg. BCI stop eating when gravid, get larger bellies, and get territorial.

I can't "see" any swelling, but she is slightly wider (by two inches) than my male (the biggest part of my male's belly is 7" around) at 9" around, and you can see the skin between her scales when she's just sitting there.

I'm fairly sure she's gravid.. but my other one stopped eating two months before giving birth-and I had no idea she was gravid. Guess I'll just keep an eye on her and hope she gives birth when I'm around to supervise

I would guess that it would be the same as any other BCI just fit to size, but ask Gus with RioBravo reptiles, I think he works with that Locality and a few other smaller sized BCI's...
