Salmontine question...................................more

East TN Reptile Dec 31, 2004 07:27 PM

I got my 1st Salmontine a few months back. I read some post saying thier salmontine is 50, 75 %. I guessing this is refering to the amount of Salmon showing? Heres a pic of my gal........what % is she?
Also, wouls some of you Salmontine lovers post some pics of your & show me some differences in %'s please.
Thanks in advance for your time,
Dave, E.T.R.

OF 75% (SO FAR) WAS PRODUCED BY BASICALLY BOAS IN 03, FROM A 50% SALMONTINE BRED TO A NORMAL ARGENTINE. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Like I mentioned below, if someone bred a salmontine to a col. the offspring would only be 25% salmontines. I know this has been done as my male was on loan last year, and the babies were sold as salmontines...no details on the breeding, and it was salmontine to col. Of course, I WAS NOT the one selling them, because I was told the females slugged out!!!! Just one way breeding loans can bite you in the a$$! But, enough about that, he's now back with us and breeding pure argentine females only. But, I think your right that Mike is the only so far to produce 75% salmontines. Take care!

The percentages are only referring to the amount of Argentine influence, not the salmon part of the equation. Basically if you breed a salmon to an argentine, you get a 50% argentine and 50% col. boa...which is a salmon. This breeding will give you salmons and normals. The normals are simply arg. x col. and the salmons are 50% salmontines. When you breed a 50% salmontine to a pure argentine, these babies are said to be 75% salmontine, since in theory, they are 75% argentine blood now. The normal animals will be arg. x col. still, but have 75% argentine blood. Hope that helps. We should be producing 75% salmontines this season. Oh yeah, on the other side of the coin, I've seen people breed salmontines to normal col. boas and call them salmontines, though technically they would only be 25% salmontines at this point since your adding col. influence and reducing the arg. influence. Confused yet? I bought my salmontine(50%) directly from Mike at Basically boas. Outside of him, I would be sure to question all animals sold as "salmontines" for the breeding that produced the animals to be sure I was getting atleast a 50% salmontine rather than the above example 25% salmontine. Take care!

I think we can all pretty much figure out the animal is a cross. What's funny is that if you look back on the argentine boa, I don't see too many of the locality freaks giving two sh!ts about them!!! Dave asked for clarification on something, if you had nothing INFORMATIVE to offer, just pass it up. We've all been down this STUPID road before. I will promise you all right now, I will NEVER, and I mean NEVER, head south and release my salmontine into the wild and tarnish the PURE bloodlines that up until salmontines came about, I didn't see too many people caring about whatsoever! Maybe some people just need something to b!tch about? I remember producing argentine boas back in 00' I think it was, and could NOT get 75 bucks each for them. But, they were PURE and they looked AWESOME!!! So, guess what I did....I traded the WHOLE litter for an albino boa. What's the difference between the two....the albino babies will move, the argentines stand a great chance at eating you out of house and home before you can sell them. Mike found a way to make them marketable though, and this is the pet trade after all, so let's all just grow up a little bit, and stop the name calling and finger pointing. NONE of us are as righteous as we might assume otherwise I doubt any of us would keep these amazing animals in 4' cages. We all love boas, don't you agree? You obviously love(what you assume to be) locality specific animals, some of us like morphs, and then some of us like them all. How about we make a little New Years resolution to just all GET ALONG!!! Or, we can sit here and have little pissing matches over who's the better tree hugger, while the BIG humaniac groups nibble away at our freedom to even "own" a boa at all. C'mon already, let's get it together! See ya!

I see, they are worthless unles they can make you money. That's a really nice way to look at it. Nice speech and all but I disagree...if opposing views are still allowed here.
