Trimeresurus Venom Ques.

devoncartier Jan 01, 2005 08:47 AM

Hi, I am trying to find information on snake venoms, specifically the venom of Trimeresurus , more specifically, Trimeresurus albolabris and Trimeresurus p. popeorum. I would like to know what kind of venom these snakes use, how much they are capable of releasing in a strike, and the results the venom has once injected. Any information would be great.

Thanks,
Devon

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

T. albolabris is actually a pretty potent venom and LD50 charts have had it around the 0.37 range and when you look at the 8-15 venom yield on these 2-3ft snakes you are not talking about a lot of venom. It is often considered to be about a copper head bite to a human (which can have much much higher venom yield of less potency) but I think its just a tad worse so you do not want be be getting bitten. They have some pretty impressive fangs on such a small viper. I bet Hammer could give you the best stats for the pope's since he is a nut about them. And I will post this parthenogenic mom of Rob. C's again since its in the topic.
