Happy New Years boys and girls! I observed OVULATION yesterday, oh yeah!

That was a GREAT thing to witness for the first time. She was rotated on her back in the traditional pose.

How long do they stay that way? I checked on her an hour or so later and she wasn't in that position any longer (normal position on her stomach). Thanks in advance.

Hi Ron, pythons usually lay belly up after the post ovulation shed. When was her last shed? You may have eggs due very soon! Here's a picture of a female ovulating. They stay real straight in the area of the oviduct while the mature ova travel up to, and down through the oviduct. Good luck!

Hey Mark!

How's your breeding season coming along? You have some phoenomenal animals there so I hope it's going great for you! BTW, I got the racks from Sam at Cage Crafters. Excellent product, great guy, thanks for recommending him!!!

Her eyes were gray on 12/29/04 so I expect her to shed in the next few days. I spoke with Andre at ASF Reptiles yesterday (terrific guy by the way with exceptional animals) and he said that her next shed will be the pre-egg laying shed.

This observation was a STUPENDOUS way to bring in the new year!

Thanks Ron everything is going great so far! I'm glad you like the racks they are working great here too.
The post ovulation and pre-lay shed would be the same thing. I've never seen a python here ovulate in the middle of a shed cycle. Good luck and let me know when you get eggs!

But in the Hundred or so ovulations I've seen, I've never had one do it on their back. They are inverted before and after, but never during an ovulation.

best of luck though.
