My Anaconda Tony

bradp_100 Jan 01, 2005 11:12 AM

My Anaconda refuses to eat live mice because he is afraid of them. He is very shy and nervous, but is calm and docile after I take him out of his cage. Sorry I could not get any pics, the camera wasn't working.
lllreptile... I trust them when getting herps

Is tony eating ft rodents? If not I do not think it is that he is afraid of mice but rather he does not see them as food or wish to eat them. Try chicks (live or ft..whatever he will eat) if the snake is not taking food and you have not already tried chicken. You may also wish to try chick scenting rodents. If nothing gets your snake eating after you try all sorts of things with rodents and chicks...maybe try iguanas or garter snakes. But I would be persistant with your other attempts before trying exotic feeders.

I know that he is afraid of living mice because he ONLY accepts f/t mice. I was worried at first when he kept refusing live mice, but one day I tossed in a f/t mouse and he immediately ate it. Ever since then I have fed him only them. I was going to convert him to them eventually anyway, so this was a lucky break for me.

Ok, so you didnt have a question..you were just telling us about the anaconda. That cool. Anyway, I doubt your anaconda is afraid of live mice, just a shy feeder. I know my girl when she was smaller liked to watch mice and get very close but she would back off when touched. She was not eating rodents then and when I finally did get her switched from chicken to rodents she was large enough to be eating rats and I will not put a live rat in a snake cage. I have not idea how she would react so it is deffinitely not worth the risk. Have fun with your green and i am glad to hear you have an ft mouse feeding anaconda.
