Huge female Western Hognose

Marcel Poots Jan 01, 2005 01:30 PM

Today I was surpriced again to see the sheer size of my Hognose female. I just took her out of hibernation and had forgotten how big she was. She is slight over 3' now.

Wow!! That is the most massive W. Hognose I've ever seen. I haven't seen a whole lot, but definently the biggest I've seen. Do you know what the "record" size for one is? Very nice girl you have there. - Matt

Marcel-

What is the trick my man? You have the biggest corns around and now you pull that giant hognose out. What have you been doing over there? You haven't been feeding them any of your special brownies have you?

LOL,

I think the trick is that my snakes are happy. All of them are big and healthy. That is because I don't handle them. I think (well I like to think) that they don't have stress...

The Peterson Field Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians (Conant/Collins 1998) lists the record size for a Western Hognose at 39 and 1/2 inches. (100.6 cm) Marcel...you may want to get a more detailed measurement. When it hits 40 in. we'll all come to Holland and celebrate! Till then...lets see some more pics of the thing. TJ from Mankato.

That is a huge Hognose. I think my female is not at 92 - 94 cm so she still have growing to do. But the way she is growing even at age 5 I think she will go to the 100cm easily. She grew almost two inches this year alone.
