Columbian Boa

kimusubi Jan 01, 2005 03:02 PM

Hi,

I've been searching around the net looking for information on Columbian Boas, however, I don't seem to be finding much about them. The most I've found are small paragraphs, or small pages at max about this snake. Does anyone know any good reads about Columbian Boas? Especially about their behaviors, the type of care they need, and their history. And also does anyone know if Columbian Boas are capable of killing humans when they're fully grown (Mostly Kids under the age of 10). Please let me know as soon as possible.

Another good one is www.boa-constrictors.com
As far as a boa killing a human. I don't know of any cases here in the U.S.A. but I recommend if you have a large boa and a small child you should take all the common sense precautions.

Not that I am a great speller in my own right (as you will see when reading this post LOL) but if you use your search engine with the spelling of Colombian and not ColUmbian you might get better luck. Colombian (with a second O instead of the U) is the commonly accepted spelling of the locality of snake here in the US and most of the information would be listed as such.
I do have all kinds of feeding, cage, heat and other info list on my site as well, feel free to visit and let me know if you have questions.
As far as your can a boa kill a small child question, well yes it is physically possible. My Largest female is 10' and 60lbs and would most certainly be able to kill a young child if I did not take all kinds of precautions (such as not having any small children in my home LOL) I don't know that it has ever been recorded to happen but every couple of years you will find someone who lets their large python roam their house like a pet cat and ends up wrapping up someone. It makes for bad press, and the owners are preceived as victims instead of the negligent pet owners/parents they are. Luckily most of the times the person is only scared but deaths from snakes (non-venomous) have occured in the US ( both adult and Child).
I could go into a long drawn out post about the responsiblity of owning one of the large constrictors, but it really boils down to common sense, secure cage and limited access between rooms with reptiles and children. A seperate locked reptile room is always a good idea with small children in the house.
Good Luck

Wow thanks! Who knew a slight spelling difference would get such better results. Thanks again!
