Help PTS ate Styrofoam...

devoncartier Jan 01, 2005 03:08 PM

Hi, well This is going to sound weird but my PTS escaped from there caging, which was not a big problem they weren’t out long., but after catching the 2 escapees and putting them back into the cage and locking them up I noticed a corner missing on a Styrofoam box from the looks of it on of the escapees took a few bites out of it. Now I don’t know what to do. I cant even call a vet nothing is open I could really use some advice.

I had a similar experience years ago. I don't recall seeing the styrofoam in their excrement but they were fine. I made sure it never happened again. Keep them well hydrated and watch for decreased appetite or difficulty going to the bathroom (blockage). My vet said it must have tasted like something from back home on the Solomon Islands.

More recently (months ago)I had a worse experience. One PTS got into a plastic supermarket bag. She was shredding it and eating it. A lot passed through her and she is fine.

Good luck!

Good old water and high fiber diet on the way. It makes no sense at all to me why they would eat it . It wasn’t even in bite sized pieces , it was a BIG box which was in the room because I just had a few snakes dropped off. But one of the escapees must have though it looked good because there are 3 or 4 bites out of it. I will be keeping a close eye on them.

I am hoping one of my female is carrying a new little PTS for me, I wish they all were like her she doesn’t ever escape, she likes it just fine in the enclosure even when the other 2 break lose and leave the door open she was just relaxing in her favorite hide. At least I know she didn’t eat any Styrofoam.
