Not sure, but I think Clowns have more potential for the color & pattern, vs. just color.

would you rather: 1.1 het clown,1.1 het caramel albino, or het male for gen stripe?Or are you better with an albino male an breed into as many normal females as you can to produce het females?

BPMachine Jan 01, 2005 07:04 PM

Personally, I would go with the het G-Stripe...

bachman Jan 01, 2005 07:09 PM

Me too, if a female het came with it.

I would go with that because there are not that many out there plus look at all the cool combos you can make with it. I think it has a lot of potential. JMO

I would personally take the 1.1 het Clowns, because I like Clowns alot. They will "all" hold their value for years to come, just go for what you want.

I'll have to agree with that. Still the best looking morph!!

Not just the best looking, which can be argued as a matter of opinion, but as far as value goes, it is undoubtably the most recognized bp morph.

This recognition alone makes it a one of the most valuable morphs even if prices for them drop or are below many of the other newer morphs.

How many other species of snakes have an albino, leucistic or hypo morph...quite a few, but no other morph among any other species is quite as unique as the piebald ball python.

Already have het's for Pied that will go this year.Looking for next morph. The problem is that I like them all. maybe Ill pick up a spider male for the most bang for a buck.

bachman Jan 01, 2005 07:31 PM

Spider would be good, make $$ quicker & be able to buy other morphs with the profits. Sounds good to me, Spiders rock!!

What other morphs do you have? DO you breed?

BPMachine Jan 01, 2005 07:38 PM

That question was for KMS...

KMS Jan 01, 2005 08:42 PM

I see much more potential for the Clown morph than for the Caramel Albino. Many of the new morphs are color mutations making any pattern mutation much more valuable in the long run. Pairings of various color morphs are not as striking as those of both color and pattern.

But then again, purchasing a Caramel Albino now will give you a higher return on your investment quicker because they are still fairly "rare" and it will take a while for their prices to come down to that of the Clown.

It depends how you look at it. If you are envisioning combining the morphs and selling the resulting double homozygous and heterozygous offspring (which would command a fairly substancial price), I would stick with the Clown. By the time the double homozygous offspring are hatching, Clown prices will have already dropped some, but others will be hatching out their own visual combos and this could help fuel demand for the combos you breed. At the same time, Caramel prices will also have dropped but they will most likely still command a comparable price to the Clown combos all on their own.

My opinion and forecast...but then again, my crystal ball is broke and I won't have the cash to fix it for a while.

. . .ghost or albino. For those of us small timers without a lot of cash to throw around, which do you think would be better--a pair of het ghosts or het albinos? They seem to be the only het pairs around for less than $1000.

KMS Jan 01, 2005 11:11 PM

What about a pastel male and normal females..
Kevin

NealH Jan 01, 2005 11:13 PM

Yeah, but it seems like that's what everyone is doing so shouldn't the price drop like a rock in the near future, being co-dom and all?

ITS all about supply and demand.Unless your one of the major players:BHB,Ralph Davis,Nerd,Vip,Clark,MKR.Sorry if I forgot any others. Then there is the next level of breeders then people like us.

RandyRemington Jan 02, 2005 04:46 PM

I think both are very nice looking and have lots of combo potential.

However they are both ones that left me scratching my head and wondering why you don't see more of them.

I think I finally got my answer on the caramels when it became public after years of them breeding that many of them have kinked spines. Since the kinks where also seen in many of the original imported animals and also in outbred animals I'm thinking it must be something inherent to the mutation. Still they have to keep trying out breeding just in case (and that effort has probably slowed them down so far) and hopefully also maybe some tweak in incubation humidity, temperature, or vitamins can be found to compensate. However I think the challenges of the spine problems is why they are still so rare even though they where one of the first morphs I ever saw a picture of (however they weren’t proven for years after that).

I haven't heard of anything being wrong with the clowns and in fact have even seen one male clown that looked fine to me and is apparently a fine breeder. I don't think clowns have been around as long as the caramels so maybe there just hasn’t been enough time to proliferate clowns. Still with all the secrets in the industry you need to be suspicious and be on the lookout for trends that indicate a possible problem.

KMS Jan 02, 2005 05:11 PM

Wow Randy. You sure have put some thought into this. There is so much still unknown with all the morphs.I personally think that even now just getting into balls you could still do well.If you buy right and smart. There are many new exciting morphs still to come So maybe in 2 years pastels will be $500( more people can afford them then) so what produce a lot and you'll be fine.
