Here's the girl who just laid 14 eggs

georgio Jul 03, 2003 07:23 PM

She came into the humane society I volunteer at a few days ago. Since then she's laid 14 eggs. She's doing well besides the fact that we don't have the proper cage for her. She seems well cared for so hopefully her owners will call soon. If not I may be taking her back to my place.

She's darling. She looks kinda small to be egging but it could be the photo. I hope she does well. Again, thanks for the info on the Uros. The babies are doing well and eating like pigs!! They have lightened up in color. I've been trying to get my daughter to take new pics but there's been no time. Maybe this weekend.

She's about 4 feet including her tail and roughly 14 inches Snout to vent. I'm guessing she weighs about 4 pounds after laying her clutch. That sound too small? I'm 6'2" if that helps from the picture. I can get accurate information tomorrow. Anything special I should do for her besides keeping her hydrated? I really want to get her out of the tiny cage she's in but she's in her stray holding period and I don't have any arboreal cages at home seeing as I only keep ground lizards. If her owner doesn't call soon I may build her a cage and foster her until I can find her a home (which is hard...I know).

Really glad the Uro's are doing well. I'd love to see some pictures when you get them...will you post them in the Cyclura forum or Uromastyx?

She looks like such a sweetie!! Are you guys going to care for the eggs too?

I kept 4 just in case the owner called and wants to incubate them. The rest went in the freezer. It's a sad thing to do but there are just too many iguanas out there, many of which have already been abandoned to shelters and need homes.

I know, so sad. Since I normally do cat and dog rescue I know what a shocking state it is for the unwanted. Good luck to this lovely little girl.

What is her heating and uvb lighting like? You might want to add calcium to her diet so she can recover more easily after egging. "Fatty" foods such as avacado can be fed in small amounts now according to my vet, So she can start putting on fat again and gaining back her normal healthy look. What about free roaming her in an office and just putting her away at night?
