Safe to put together?

coolj9688 Jan 01, 2005 05:31 PM

I have two bearded dragons, a male and a female that are about four months apart in age. My male is 305 grams and my female is 187 grams. I was wondering if it would be safe to put them together and if not how close should there weights be before they can be put together. I want to put them together so i can get another younger one.

thanks
Justin

They are not safe to put together at all. A male that large is most likely going to try and breed the female and she is way to young to be bred. Females should be at least 15 months of age and 300g with 18 months and 350g or more optimal. Also, y ou won't jsut get a single baby after mating your dragons, you are likely to get 60 or more.

If you mean you just want to buy a baby dragon to add to what you already have, better to buy a new home for it as well. Bearded dragons thrive much better kept separately in their own enclosures than in groups.

If its the little 187 gram female you need to put her in a tank that is big enough for her, a 20 gallon long is for a baby, not one that size.

Please read up on bearded dragons and their needs before you invest in any more or putting a male and female together. The above statetments make me feel this is all very new to you and we will be glad to help you, but lets make sure you have the proper needs for these two first

Like tanks, UVB, heat source, foods, temps etc

Justin said he was going to put his NEW baby in a 20 gallon long to start. He said in an earlier post he was going to get another bearded dragon, a baby. So that's what is going into that 20 gallon terrarium.

I don't know if you didn't see that earlier post or what but I just thought I'd let you know. Not trying to be mean, just thought I'd inform you.

female is 187 grams

Why would you even think of breeding a 187 gram female? She is either very young (much to young to breed) or in really poor shape if she is an adult and should never be bred.

We do not bred any dragons under 500 grams, 18 months of age there are too many sickly and small dragons out there that are impossible to sell from people who did not plan before they put two dragons together and now are begging stores to buy them.

Let your dragons grow up and while they are, read and learn about them and caring for babies

Cost of surgery from egg binding $800
Cost to buy another small dragon $25-$50 or even free at times when the people can not find buyers.

If you put them together, they will breed. No, especially at their ages & sizes, it is not safe. For all the reasons mentioned by the others.
