Sam threw up....

-ryan- Jan 01, 2005 10:32 PM

for any of you that have been following Sam's recent ailments, a new puzzle piece has been addded. She trew up all over her cage today...it wasn't pretty. She ate yesterday and has been basking all of the time, but the greens didn't look too digested yet...they looked more rotten than digested. Maybe it's just the stress of all of this? She never had parasites and therefore no treatments either before this, so I think it's stressing her out pretty bad. i worry about her because she's probably and old uro. I'll leave her alone for the next couple of days and see if she eats or anything, but things don't seem to be looking too good.

I say ask your vet if vomiting is a side effect of the panacur she's on (that's the name of the medicine, right?).

It could just be a side effect of the medicine and if it is then it means there's nothing else wrong.

Maybe someone else on here who has used the same medicine as you on their uro could tell you if it is a side effect.

I hope Sam is ok, and I also hope she's younger than she looks and that she still has a long life ahead of her.

Good Luck and I hope she gets better real soon.

Poor Sam. Maybe her green were turning bad ( very soft, slimmy) and with the medicine it upset her stomach. Just a thought. Good luck and I sure hope she will be fine.

Is Sam on Probiotics? Acidophilis? Nutrabac?
With beardeds it is recommended when
they are on antibotics.
Antibotics kill the good bactria in the intestines
Which they need.

Is it the same kind of acidophilus as the kind you find in yogurt?

It's the same bacteria, but in a powder form, since they can't eat yogurt.

Probotics are benefical bacteria. Many animals, have naturally occuring bacteria in their gut tract
that help to digest food. Without this bacteria we, and they, would get very ill because our food wouldn't digest properly. When antibiotics are administered they kill both good and bad bacteria.
Stress can also be a factor in gut health.

For regular use,the instructions on the product should be fine to follow. Acidopoliz , Nutribac, or Benebac is recommended. Dairy products, such as yogurt, are NOT good for reptiles.

Probotics are live bacteria that are taken in to replace or boost the naturally occuring bacteria. It is the same thing as when you eat a cup of yogurt from the fridge. Human doctors, though not as often as they should, often reccomend eating a bit of yogurt or taking a pill to help replace this gut bacteria when humans are on medications.
Some humans actually keep up with probotic therapy regularly as it really can help a lot with digestive health.

Hope this helps, Radena
