hatchling eastern won't eat

ThreeToeMan Jan 01, 2005 11:24 PM

hi. this is my first post on the kingsnake.com forum. in mid november, i bought a group of six eastern box turtle hatchlings. all have been eating well until one week ago when one stopped eating. this one looks healthy, active, no signs of r.i. but he now refuses food, is only 6 grams, and the bottom of his shell is soft. unlike the other ones, who have all gained significant weight, continue to eat, and are showing good growth. is it possible maybe to force-feed this guy, he is my favorite one and i'd like to save him if i can.

not eating for a week.. or even a month will not kill a healthy hatchling, if you're really concerned, most hatchlings yawn when you soak them, try slipping a moistened stick of reptomin in his mouth when he yawns, even if he only gets one bite it's better than nothing, or take him to the vet and have them give the hatchling an appitite booster, but with a turtle so small he might be to hard to dose. good luck either way.

also.. the longest I've had a hatchling go without eating was close to 3 months and she's still alive, took alot of yawns to get her eating right.
