Looks like a variable kingsnake (thayeri) or perhaps some type of hybrid...

Until somebody proves diff????Dude you just insulted the king of celaenops bling bling.Ric Blair has the best West Texas milk snake collection there is.If somebode had g.p.s. on that snake it would still be a New Mexico Milk.

This new picture just helps to reinforce my identification although I had no doubt to begin with. You probably cannot give it an exact locale without knowing for sure. The other possibilitie's are Black Gap, however not as likely as fewer are caught there. They are quite common in the GAP if conditions are right. It is definitely a lower desert, West Texas snake. It is a classic New Mexico milk. They do vary some, and there are a few that are cleaner in the white area of the banding. The Chihuahuan desert is one of the most extreme, incredibly beautiful, hot, and dry places in the U.S., with no permanent water in alot of cases, and to find one of these beautie's there is a trip. Even when you see one they can be hard to catch, as they are extremely quick....Ric Blair
