Temp Gradient

shell12 Jan 02, 2005 11:23 AM

I have a gradient in my tank of about 78-102. My baby beardie sits at the 102 spot all day long, until the lights go out, when he jumps off his rock and passes right out! Will it hurt him to sit in the hot spot all day? I've read many people's comments that theirs will sit at the hot spot, then move to a cooler spot after a while. Is mine less intelligent (haha) or does he just like the heat?

Is that 102 the air temp or surface temp? I have 2 adult beardies & one will bask almost the entire time rarely going to cool off. Then the other will heat up then go cool down many times a day. Is your baby acting any different?( Not eating ,pooping, lethargic)

I just laid one of the strip thermometers on the basking rock at the highest point, and that was the reading. He is active, eating fine, and pooping daily.

Sounds like everything is alright, but I would get a digital thermometer or a temp gun. The strip thermometers aren't very accurate from what I’ve heard.. You can pick up a good indoor/outdoor one at Wal-Mart for less than $20. If you have any pics post them, everyone likes to see baby beardies pics.

First, go to this link:

gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.php?cat=557&thumb=1

Upload your pictures to the gallary. Once done, come back here to the forums and when you either post a new message or select reply, you will see several fields below the main text field (basically where you type) A small blue link is right under the main text field, to the right with some useful tools and toys. The other fields, look for the one saying 'select image from Photo Gallery' and click on teh drop down arrow to the image you want to post. You can click on 'Preview Message' to make sure the image loads correctly.

Multiple images are a bit tricky but Tools and Toys shows you how to do that.

This is my new baby BD, Puppy. I name him that cuz I wanted a puppy for xmas, but I got him instead. When I looked at him for the 1st time, he looked up at me and cocked his head to the side, just like a puppy would do. He's so cute!! He's 4 months old. Sorry I'm not very good at taking pics.
