Amazon Basin/Ecuador b.c.c. size?

Kevin Saunders Jul 03, 2003 07:54 PM

I never heard anything about it, but I'm assuming these get as large as surinames, guyanas, and all the other true redtails? Can anyone comment on this? Thanks.

Ecuador is also just south of colombia. I was just in ecuador not long ago. Didn't make it to the amazon basin, but did go to the vivarium in quito, there native species looked much like colombians to me.

i'd say he looks like the classic description of a "peruvian" bcc.. though he was has captured in ecuador.. i would make the assumtion he should grow and feed like a peruvian. this was on the basin side of the andes he was captured, so you may have been on the BCI side of the andes...

If the Ecuadorian is from the (eastern) lowlands, then it's also an Amazonian, hardly distinguishable from an animal from Iquitos or Leticia (don't take the hobby form of the Leticia Boa as a representative of the Colombian Amazonian form).

If it's an Andean, then it's more than likely B.c.i, although there are some unusual forms in Ecuador that are almost certainly longicauda.

Taking a look at a map is often helpful when trying to understand this situation. Also, remember that common names are often misleading. The Amazon basin encompasses nine countries for example, and yet most people think Colombia only has B.c.i's. Get my point? 'Brazilian' Rainbows also have one of THE most unfortunate names in our hobby. In this case Amazonian Rainbow, or similar, would be more appropriate.
