Indoor Enclosure Question

toaster529 Jan 02, 2005 04:05 PM

I am building an indoor enclosure. Part of it has a flat basking area, and there is also a large pond on the other end. (One of these 500 gallon deals you get at a home improvement store.)

Anyway, the basking area is plywood and will have astro-turf stuff over top of it. My question is this:

Can I seal the plywood underneath that turf so urine or any water dripping off from the gator swimming won't "fray" the plywood as I've seen it do?

Someone told me Thompson's water seal, but I want to make sure I'm not introducing any toxic stuff to my gator.

Hey, also.. is neosporin ok for abrasions or mild cuts on a gator?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Greg

Greg, what I would do in your case, is build the enclosure completely out of wood (or concrete) painted with epoxy paint.. You can even put a glass front on the water area if you want to... This will save you money if you still have to purchase the pond, and you can customize it to be any shape or size you like.. If you have any questions about this, email me at thelionsshare5@hotmail.com and I can tell you more, and send you some pictures of enclosures done this way..
