A question about growth and color

spottedturtleman Jan 03, 2005 08:17 AM

Do Red Bloods get more colorful with age? I purchased a male in november that is doing great. He was only $65 and is more brown than red.I want to buy a few females and wanted to know if the more expensive Bloods will have more red as adults? I was leary about getting a blood because I was told that Bloods were nothing but trouble, B.S!! My male eats without a problem, never once tried to bite and just had his first shed since I have had him.
Thanks for any replies

Hey,
Congrats on your new acquisition. Yes! to answer your question of whether bloods develop more color as they get older. Color doesn't really start to show up till they are at least 1-2 years of age. Some will get darker with age with more red while others simply develop an over all orange color, with tans and browns. They are quite variable and unless you know that you're buying from a specific blood line, there is no way of knowing what the animal will turn out like predictably speaking.

My first blood was a yellow orange animal that is now slowly turning red.Blood pythons are one of the hardest snakes to predict based on color due to the fact some snakes undergo drastic changes and other very minor.Based soley on my own experience try to pic a blood that has a more orange hue.The orange is MORE LIKELY to turn red.Try not to get brown bloods since the brown hue only tends to increase with age.I personally think the yellow and brown phase is beautiful.I took a gamble with this girl.Notice the orange/red already starting to show.P.s I hope the brown top on her doesn't stay that way.OH WELL,I'll still love her ether way.GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS!!!
