Adult Collared not opening eyes???

kofseattle Jan 03, 2005 03:18 PM

Hello,

I would greatly appreciate any help in figuring out what may be wrong with one of my adult collareds. At first appearance it appeared that her eyes were stuck closed but now I am not sure that is the case. I soaked her in warm water and then used q-tips to help moisten her eye lids. One eye popped open briefly but the other never did. The one that did open looks all sunken in but I believe she can see from it as she seemed startled when it did open like hse could see my ugly mug It does not stay open that long though and then she closes it again. Has anyone seen this or have any idea what may be going on here? I am looking for some help while I wait for my appointment on Thursday with my vet who is out of town. Herp vets are hard to find around here, especially good ones so I have to wait until then. Anyone?????

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Has she been bruamting? Just wondering because sometimes they get this, and sometimes it is accompanied by, or turns into respiritory infection.

I'm not trying to BUM you out, because I dont know, but I think it was JohnE that had his male last year start with an eye infection (eyes stuck shut) and then got worse.

So I would not mess with it, just keep an eye on her.

Hope she will be okay! Let us know

Howdy, long time since last we met. I lurk occaisonally but have been too busy to post in along time. My collection has grown to almost Zoo status

Regarding the little girl, I think you may be right about the eye infection. The only thing that struck me as strange was the lack of discharge around the eyes. Ususally comes along with an eye infection but not this time? She did just come out of a brief nap but I had never heard of this before or seen it in any of my larger species of lizards. This is one of JohnE's girls, maybe it's stinky-socky-eyetis? She was delivered in the all famous sweat sock Well, cross the lizard toes for my little girl, I hope she makes it but it does not look too good. She can't even hunt.

Weird, Ken...

I thought you got a young male from me? At any rate, yea...Eve is right about my male. It was a WC male (Azul) He was very nice, and had no yellow on him at all. I was brumating him, and when I was bringing him out, he appeared to be having difficulty breathing...the I think his started with an upper respiratory infecting that spread to the eyes. He did eventually perish unfortunately.

Actually, that was February last year. I was getting ready to vacation in Florida so I sent him to Eve to see if she could work with him while I was on vacation. He died in transit. Could have been the sock too.

The vet had prescribed him a high Baytril dose, and high temps etc. I took him off sand, and kept him in a tupperware container and never let his night temps dip. His second checkup showed renal failure which is pretty common when high meds are given to small animals...poor little guy just couldn't handle it.

Best of luck with your girl.

Did you get 1.1 or 1.2 from me??

You know johnE you are right, it was "Bluey" my male that I got from you. This particular female came from Dr Tom Jones. Bluey is still doing very well.

The female in question may also have a resp infectio as she is breathing pretty heavy as well. However, no nasal discharge? Strange but true. Again, everyone cross lizard toes for the little girl. I will do everything I can for her.

Whenever anyone says eyes stuck shut anymore, its like a WARNING light goes off. I hear the same story from so many and it usually is the resp infection
.
Dont think its the Eddington STINKY sock overwhelming her this time.

If you get it early , shes got a good chance. Sure hope we hear good news from you soon,

Take care,

I'm curious how he turned out.

We ruled out sweaty sock syndrome LOL. Maybe she was shipped in some expired potato salad deli cup. I remember a male I got from Tom Jones came in a deli cup

My male had no nasal discharge either...Too dehydrated at the time probably. I'm crossing my lizard toes.
