Best Cham for a newbie?

Hlynn1975 Jul 03, 2003 09:16 PM

Hi all,

I am thinking about getting into chameleons and was wondering what was the best cham for a beginner. I have a bunch of lizards and snakes so I'm not a novice at herp keeping but I've never had a cham. I don't care for the look of Veiled chams and would prefer a smaller, perhaps dwarf species. Any suggestions would be great, especially if you could point me in the direction of a good care sheet for the species in question. Thanks.

For the curious, here is the list of animals I have.

1.2 ball pythons
1.1 corn snakes
1.0 colombian rainbow boa
1.0 el rosario rosy boa
1.0 crested gecko
0.1 savannah monitor
1.1 blue tongue skinks
1.5 leopard geckos
1.1 bearded dragons

jacksons panther veiled
i personally think the jacksons but all are in the top 3 easiest
stay away from flapnecked and other wild caught animals that are really cheap because they usually will die

i would try a jacksons since they tolerate low temps better than high temps.

or if you live in a hot area go with a veiled .

or if you like a terarrium you can go with stump tailed chameleons...they grow to be about 4 inches long and a trio can live in a 20 gallon long tank.

the first two i gave need tall screen enclosures
