how different V.albigularis can be.

varanidfan Jan 03, 2005 07:22 PM

I was just looking through all my pics and cleaning cages looking at my animals, and I am surprised at the variety One animal can have in size, color, and pattern, its absolutely amazing. Is V.micorstictus still valid? or yemenisis? or have they been absorbed into the whole v.albigularis name as well?
thanks
scott

as you can see they are very varied, adn im sure there are 3 times as many variated looking animals out there.

I am not sure....you need to ask Shvar...he keeps lots and seems to know what they are.

Im confused on them as anyone else is, a very few I could tell you where they are from.
As far as Microstictus, they are supposed to be the blackthroat but Ionides is supposedly also considered a different form of the same (different colors, pattern), I asked for an explanation to this many times and it confuses me because the answers you get are different many times. The sources probably are available through Mark Bayless, to classiifying them. Yemenisis (not positive on spelling) is a separate species that appears similar, with different genetics if I remember, different hemipene morphology, etc.
The whole classification on Albigs by pattern, color, etc are confusing when it comes to what makes a Microstictus, or an Ionides different, and how one was removed as a classification, then supposedly brought back, that seems to depend on who changes it every month. This is why many times keepers/hobbyists ignore classifications as they are so many times in flux. Easy way to remember, they are all Albigs.
