OT Volunteering at a Reptile Rescue

dmlove Jan 03, 2005 09:57 PM

Hey all, I was just saying that I am finally volunteering at a herp rescue about 40 minutes away from my home, Arrowhead Reptile Rescue. They are actually in a lawsuit with the city of West Chester because people want to close them down because "they dont feel safe" with the large lizards (iggys, monitors, teiids) and large snakes (boids etc) in the place. They are lisenced and run fully on donations, and need all the help they can get. I decided it would be a good experience for me to start helping out and giving back, and it would be a good experience with all the herps there. I can't wait! Ill let you all know how it goes.

That sounds so kewl! What type of jobs would you be doing there? Cleaning cages or helping animals get adopted? What exactly does the place do?

That's awesome! That sounds like sooo much fun! I almost volunteered for the local Herp Rescue here in town, but it is too far away from me. :'( That sounds like fun and i'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences and how it goes! GREAT LUCK!

Hey David, sounds like a fun job. Be real careful though so you don't transfer anything from there to your reps, you never know what rescue animals have. Let us know how it goes.

Ill be cleaning cages, trying to tame aggressive large reptiles, working out with the adoptions, and also they said they will let me work on their website to "soup" it up a little more, and get better photos. I can't wait! Sean - Thanks for the advice. Ill definetly be careful about transferring diseases and parasites to my own collections. Ill let you all know how it goes!

that people feel that way! Shame they are trying their darnest to do somthing EXTREMELY worthwhile to help these herps, and people complain. SAD

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, it would be awesome, but at the same time, MY house would GET FULL, LOL I would probably start bringing all the NEED HELP victims home, and once their here they stay!

I'm sure SOME will win your heart also, and a place in your HOME as well Goos Luck, time well spent!
