Question about humidity with newspaper

kylescott Jan 03, 2005 10:00 PM

I have my baby ball pythons on newspaper with humidity box's (in a rack). But I was thinking from moving my adult balls from cypress mulch to newspaper. But how can I have good humidity without the humidity box's. I know I can dretch the newspaper, but its kind of gross to always have the snake on wet bedding. Any suggestions?

I have racks designed by cagecrafters. They're 32 quart sterlite cages and I haven't drilled any airholes in them.

I don't have any problems with humidity/shedding on a newspaper substrate. When I notice them going into shed, I place their water bowls from the front of the cage to the rear of the cage. That allows me to visually look in each cage to see who's in shed and it also increases the humidity since the heat tape is in the back.

Hope this helps!

Kyle,
you don't want your snakes on soggy wet subtrate for any long durations.

As stated by Philly, in a rack, placement of the water bowl makes a tremendous difference on humidity.

I also mist the paper(on the hot side only) just for the shed cycle, and never had a problem shed. One misting at the bigining of the shed is all it takes for me, they hold humidity quite well.

You can also try different numbers of air holes to tune the tubs to the desired humidity levels.

good luck, it shouldn't be too hard to get the desired level, racks really do hold humidity well.
