Deformed baby *PIC*

Crystall Jul 03, 2003 09:58 PM

I hatched this baby 3 days ago.
I think she is the cutest thing! I used Trempers incubation method, as you can tell...and I only have one thing to say...NEVER AGAIN!!
Let me know what you think.
Thanx,
Crystal

that happened because you used the tremper incubation method??? when did you bump the temps up??? because if you do it too soon deformities will arise more often. so you hatched perfect babies using the "ussual" way, then you used the tremper way and got that!!! thats sad and i'm so sorry! what do you use for an incubator? i'm just wondering because i had a pair that never layed fertile eggs. over 2 breeding seasons 27 eggs, none fertile! so i went and bought some ones that were definetly good breeders. and i already have 7 fertile eggs cooking, but i'm worried because my temps vary too much using my homemade incubator and i'm wondering what you use because it obviously works for you. i just can't believe that happened to your gecko! let me know and sorry for the long post.

Your first 2 look fine. Were they incubated in the same way? I've heard of this but have not had it happen and I hatched all my eggs this year with Trempers method.

Are you sure it's trempers method that caused the deformation? Cuz i'm using that method, i raised the temps 3 days ago. Shud i lower the temps back to normal? Cute gecko tho! Best of luck to the lil bugger!

Your right Crystal, shes a beauty... Just makes you kinda sad when you look at her. Hope shes not in pain... BUT, at least shes going to get your attention as opposed to someone elses... I think she'll end up being something special. Or already is I should say...

I know I am going to be singled out as the bad one here, and I feel really sorry for that gecko, but you need to put her to rest ASAP before she starts to shows problems that will lead to a rapid decline. It may be a hard thing to do, but think about what kind of pain your gecko may be going through and its quality of life. We hatched out several with deformed eye lids and no matter how hard we tried we failed at keeping them healthy with a good quality of life.

I guess it was not meant to be. I sure will miss seeing her cute little face. She was only 4 days old.

And for the question of incubation, I bumped the temps up at a little over 2 weeks.
As you can see, the method did work well for color, but not for a healthy gecko.
She will be greatly missed

Thank you,

the gecko is still developing at two weeks! according to Tremper you are suposed to bump the temps at 3-3 1/2 weeks. so that the babies parts are developed and the baby is just growing, not still developing. i ran into the same problem last season and i e-mailed him to see what's up. he told me that two weeks was too soon. he said it was better to wait until 3 weeks of incubation had passed. i found that i had no deformed babies this way. hope this helps!

I think the wat that baby came out is.... odd but if it doesn't have any other problems don't put it to sleep. Best of luck
