Hi, I live in Denmark and own a nice, healthy little captive bred Alligator snapping turtle! I simply love this species, and whants to know everything there is to know about it.

So, I am wondering about a more precise location of my alligator snappers' origin, within the big range of the species. The parents of my snapper was probably wild caught.

Where in U.S.A. may they have come from?
In other words: What state(s) in the U.S.A. is the origin of alligator snapping turtles from back in the 80'ies and 90'ies until now?

the origin of the gator turtles goes a hell of a lot further back than the 80's. there are 100 yr old turtles swimming within minutes of me that will still be alive after i die.(God willing)
here in louisiana, my Acadian ancestors were harvesting snappers in the 1600's when they first arrived here. and my Native American ancestors harvested them for hundreds (thousands) of years before that.
we still harvest wild turtles here for their meat, though new laws (which i STRONGLY support) limit the number that may be taken.
ps- the erosion of Louisiana's coastline poses a much larger threat to the snappers, and ALL of our flora and fauna then hunters and trappers EVER WILL!!!

Jeg ville bare høre hvor du havde købt din alligatorskildpadde og hvor stor/gammel den er? Jeg overvejer selv at anskaffe mig een (har en alm. snapper) - men har ikke rigtigt fundet nogen stedet i DK hvor man kan købe dem som unger...
