Last night we heard a horrible sound coming from the cage of our '03 cbb female (from Alex Hue.) The snake's mouth was opening and closing, and this gurgling noise was coming from her throat. It was like a few short barks of sound, then nothing, then another sound, then it stopped for good.
It sounded like a quick gargle sound, if you can imagine that. Or if you're into aquariums, imagine the sound a filter makes if you plug it in without water in it. Each burst was no longer than half a second. After four or five barks, this stopped completely.
There was no fluid coming from her mouth, and she did not regurgitate anything. She did take a normal-looking defecation soon after though.
If it helps, Thursday (four days before the event) she ate a largish f/t hopper rat. It was by no means too big for her, but it was the max. size I could offer without being too big. I know that boids sometimes regurge too-large prey; do you think this almost happened?
I am worried sick about her, although this morning she seemed perfectly normal coiled up in her warm hide. Her cage conditions are perfect, she is not dehydrated and not overmoistened. No signs of wheezing or mouthrot either. I desperately hope that she does not have IBD or something.
She looks fine today, though I have not taken her out of her hide.
