Not eating but pooping?

gpmonaghan Jul 03, 2003 10:18 PM

We got a juvenile leopard gecko about six months ago. She would only eat the odd cricket despite very thin tail. Eventually we tried mealies and she began eating well, eating about a dozen a night for a couple of weeks until tail got nice and fat. We once left a cricket in there for weeks and she'd walk on by it. Nothing in the environment has changed, same setup lamps etc. and temps. but she stopped eating about three weeks ago. She's doing a poop every few nights and seems to be drinking the water. She used to come out the moment we'd put on the night light and head straight for the food and check it out. Now even if we put it in front of her nose she turns her head away or backs off. Pet store said to try to force feed and that didn't even work. She shed about two weeks ago and ate her shed. How can she be pooping with nothing but water going in? She measures 7" and weighs 1 oz. Her tail doesn't seem to have gotten any thinner. What kind of illnesses can gecko's get and if so can they be cured?

It is possible that your gecko has parasites which could be causing the loss or appetite. Get a fecal done and if your gecko has parasites a perscription will be givin and you'll have to give your gecko some medication. Hope things go well! Best of luck, keep us posted! n/p
