tile in cage

chipstahoy Jan 04, 2005 12:25 PM

i really wanna put some tile and tiny sand to fill in the cracks in my tank. i have a 50g long and i wanna fill it with good, natural looking tile so my tank looks better. so here's my question: how should i go about doing this? do i glue them in the bottom, or do i just place them in and fill the cracks with sand? where do i put my UTH? that's my main source of heat as it is. would i place that in between the inside of the tank and under the tiles, or what? would it heat the tiles enough? would they get too hot? where would i get the tiles? what kind of sand should i get (my geckos are all full-grown)? any other info or suggestions would be awesome. thanks

it seems like the cage wouldn't be warm enough if you had so much buffer by keeping the UTH under the tank. but does everyone concur that i should do this?

and what about sand?

how does this work with cleaning up poop?

thanks

We have a enclosure that we use slate tiles in and it looks great. The tiles came from Home Depot and were only $1.99 each for 12"x12" tiles. I just cleaned the cage last night and lifted a whole tile out, washed it and disinfected it. It was super easy, fast and the tile looks like new again. The tiles are cut so square with such nice edges that I don't find a need to put sand in between.

Good luck, J
