About 10 years or so ago, when I lived in S. CA, I was amazed when I walked out of my apartment and saw a beautiful lizard basking under the bushes. It had a creamy background color with strongly marked reddish bars that traveled from side to side at regular intervals over his back. It was slender with an impossibly long tail and was easily 2 feet overall if not more in length. When I researched, I think it was called a Sonoran. I wanted to catch it, but didn't have anything to put him in at the time and didn't want to break that magnificent tail. It has to be one of the most beautiful animals I ever saw. Has anyone ever had one of these or know if there are any successful captive breeders of this species? I've had wild Alligators before that I've kept for short times and think they are awesome lizards.
