I just got this today, and hooked it up to appropriate wattage dome, and it's smoking and putting off some really vile smelling fumes. Is it just burning off packaging junk? I'm a bit concern'd. I have it running in my bathroom right now with window open and keeping a eye on it. Anyone?

Nothing that I can see... and the smoke seems to have stopped. Still smells terrible though.

Ya, I called them tonight, but didn't know they where on the east coast so missed them. Shot them a e-mail,and I will try again tomorow. Although I am guessing it's just stuff burning off it. Get funky smells whenever fire up the electric baseboards in the basement after they have been off for a while too.

Id say your right. I have smelled that when "burning in" a new one. But I have never seen smoke....

I purchased 2 of these 3 months ago and they did the same thing. The elements are just "outgasing" and burning off all the residue from anything that has come in contact with them. It generally takes about 2 - 5 days for it to be fully done.

I purchased a 250w CHE from them last year, and it didn't smoke. I believe it did smell for short time. Definitely call them in the morning...

Thanks to all. Most of the smell is gone. Still a bit so I figure it's fine. Got a reply back from ba, and they said just stuff burning off too. So all's fine. Unfortunatly I got the big wattage with plan to reostat(sp) it down... couldn't get it cool enough before hit to little wattage to turn the thing on
Doh! Ran out and got a smaller wattage today. Lol. Oh well. Live and learn.
