Leapard Geckos

cherylc Jan 05, 2005 08:33 AM

I recently purchased 2 leapard geckos and was hoping someone could help with a few questions. One of them is eating well and basically comes out of his hiding spot charging the crickets when I feed. The other doesn't seem to be eating. I do notice it drinking and it appears to be healthy. I have had them since December 23. The other question is about misting. Should they be misted directly? I have been misting the front of the hut they hide in daily (a couple of squirts from the spray bottle). The last question is about the meal worms. They don't eat them. Does it just take time for them to notice? Or are they too young just yet?

I did purchase a book specifically about Leapard Geckos but it doesn't give you any specific information so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

How old are they????? Were they paired with each other when you bought them???You may need to seperate them to better make sure they are eating and deficating normally.
1. Make sure you don't have two males( one might be intimidating the other or they may start fighting altogether).
2. My hatchlings are fed approiate sized mealworms from the start, but sometimes with newly aquired animals you may need to jump start their feeding instincts by giving them something more lively(i.e. crickets).
3. How is your set-up?
4. Did you give them time to settle in( the only contact I give in the first 2 days is just to replenish water then i offer food on day 3 with very little physical contact for about a week or so. During this time make sure they are passing a bowel movement, if the movement don't look formed you may consider a fecal test for parasites).
