A Question About Breeding...please reply...

loriehadin Jan 05, 2005 08:40 AM

I've just introduced my male to my female and have observed copulation. The breeding schedule i'm following says i sould take the male out after four days and then reintroduce in another four days and repeat until March. My question is...wouldnt it be better leaving them together if they are already copulating? any advide would be greatly appreacitaed, many thanks, Lorie xxx

Well, what I see around here in most cases is that after an intitial period of copulation, the animals seem to not want to have anything to do with each other. Remember that these snakes are solitary in nature. They mate, then crawl off in their own seperate directions. By removing the male, you are effectively "crawling them off", if you will. When you reintroduce a few days later, its just like if they come across each other in the wild. They mate again. Does that make sense?
