Is this alright?

Hey

I'm planning to get two chinese firebelly newts. I have a 8 gallon glass tank and this is how I'm gonna set it up. I am going to put an inch of aquarium gravel at the bottom, fill the tank around half full of water. I am going to put some floating plastic lillypads and floating wood. Will the newts be able to get themselves onto the wood or lillypad from the water? I am going to put a little filter in the tank to, will it hurt them? Ofcourse I will add some plastic plants at the bottom and some little statues. Should I be adding anything else? Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.

The set-up you propose for your newts sounds fine to me. However, I using gravel that is small enough to be ingested by the newts is bad. Also, if you are feeding them live foods such as tubifex worms, the worms can hide between the gravel.

I'm much happier w/ live plants than I was w/ plastic. I can't believe how much cleaner they keep the tank! Either is fine, it's just personal preference.

Where did you get those cool rock walls on the left side of the tank? Thanks

My hubby had them from years ago. Although I've seen similar things in the aquarium supply sections of stores. They stick w/ suction cups to the glass.
