In memory of Lizzy ... gone but never forgotten (photos).

veronicag Jan 05, 2005 02:46 PM

For those of you who have read about Lizzy's rescue on our website, you know what a wonderful little critter he was. Well, maybe not little. At one time Lizzy weighed 550 grams. He was a big, healthy boy.

On Dec. 18, Lizzy passed away. He started to look ill just before Thanksgiving and started to rapidly lose weight. To our dismay, we were not able to diagnose the problem. The vet was stumped, but he suspected cancer. He didn't have any parasites. It was as if he just didn't want to eat and gradually got very weak.

A necropsy was done after his death to uncover the cause of his illness. Lizzy had leukemia. I hope that he wasn't in a lot of pain, and he went rather quickly.

Lizzy was with us from August 2002 until Dec. 18, 2004. He was just over 3 years old. We enjoyed so many wonderful moments with him. That's why I'm sharing some of his photos with you. I don't want to include any of the recent photos where he looks ill, I want him to be remembered as he was - healthy and vivacious.

Here's the big boy...

One thing was for sure ... he loved his silkies!

Peek-a-boo!

Showing off his beautiful black beard. This is my favorite picture of him...

RIP Lizzy. We miss you!!!

Hugs,
Veronica

So sorry to hear this sad news Veronica Anybody who knows you at all knows that Lizzy while here was spoiled, and was extremely loved and cared for. Great pics Veronica, and in each one you can see the happiness written all over Lizzy's face He sure was a ham for the camera, and I'm sure for those silk worms too.

Thanks Matt. You sure read my mind ... he was a HAM! That really puts his personality into perspective.

On a more happy note ... guess who's getting Lizzy's fancy home? STEVIE!!! Lizzy lived in the "top condo" in the 6 foot tall beardie enclosure my husband made. It has a thermostat controlled environment that kicks on a small, quiet computer fan to suck out hot air when it gets too hot, and it also helps to bring in fresh air. The condo's also have top of the line MegaRay UVB/heat bulbs, thanks to ReptileUV. I hope Stevie will enjoy his new home. I'll post pictures of him in his new enclosure as soon as I can.

Here's a picture of the beardie condo ...

Thanks again for the kind words Matt. You really are a good friend.

Hugs,
Veronica

Wow Stevie is moving on up these days... Now he has the penthouse suite with thermostatically controlled temps, electric air exchange, and kick butt UVB bulbs. My boy is living large!!! Thanks Veronica I'm sure he's going to just love his new home. Let me know how he does with the cage change. I'm sure he'll do fine if you set it up similar to his old cage, so he knows where to find his food dish

Geez, we think so much alike it scares me! LOL He's been in his new enclosure almost a full day now and seems to be loving the extra space. He cautiously checks out new things and loves the view. He can watch me when I'm on the computer now, or look outsite through the window that overlooks our front lawn. Although I don't know how good his far-sight is, it must be ok because he seems to notice when the squirrels are playing in the front yard. He gets all excited! Maybe its just his near-sight that he has trouble with.

I'll keep you posted on how he does and get some photos very soon! Take care!

Hugs,
Veronica

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Sometimes the ones who are with us the shortest time compensate with the biggest personalities.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about Lizzy. It is hard when our beloved pets pass. Know that he is in a place now where there is no pain, and he is very thankful for the wonderful last years that you gave him. R.I.P. Lizzy

He will be terribly missed.
Bet he had the best life a dragon in captivity could have (with you).

Hes a beautiful big boy, very handsome, he must have been sent on a more important dragon mission , where he will always be BIG and Strong, and Healthy forever.

Maybe he will be in charge of seeing that you get all the healthy, happy, handsome dragons you ever want.

A bunch of GREAT pics to remember him by!

Take Care,

I love your quote ... "he must've been sent on a more important dragon mission..." I'll have to use that later on - with your permission, of course! LOL

Thanks so much for making me smile. You're absolutely right, he's in a better place, helping someone else. Have a great day!

Hugs,
Veronica

Sorry for your loss. It's never easy to loose a friend...even one with scales! I'm glad you were able to offer Lizzy a wonderful home for the time he had.
