Chubby Frog won't eat!

chubbyfrogmom Jan 05, 2005 05:13 PM

I was at PetSmart and had to rescue the little guy. They had him in this tiny little kritter keeper. So I bought him and put him in a ten gallon tank. It's been about a week and he won't eat! I'm starting to worry about him. He moves around but not a lot. He'll go to one spot and sit all day with his eyes closed or he'll bury himself completely and not come out all day. Do they hybernate(sp)? Should I just wait him out? He's my first non-aquatic frog so I'm trying to learn.
Thanks for any help

I'd say wait a little while longer. Whats the temp in the tank?

chubbyfrogmom Jan 06, 2005 10:16 AM

The temp is around 72 and the humidity is at between 80 and 90%. Right now he has a floresent light bulb fixture. Would a UV light be better for him? The pet store wasn't alot of help in the information department (the sold me a few floating frogs and said they were full-aquatic at one time. Luckly I realized this was incorrect and was able to save them from a watery grave)

Pet shops are dumb when it comes to buying animals, you should buy froma breeder instead. I went to petsmart and was looking at tanks and saw those floating frogs in there dead and rotting and the water was filthy. To answer your question raise the temp to about 80 degrees, and moniter his eating closely, if hes not eating at all you might have to take them to a vet. Sigh, sepaking of chubby frogs i used to have one. How i miss her .

Thank You for all your help. Sadly Diggger passed away today. I guess he must have been sick when I got him. He wasn't in the best living conditions at the pet store.
